Arbaeen
“Arbaeen-e- Hoseini’ is 20 th day of month Safar (lunar) and is the 40 th day after martyrdom of Imam Hosein, grandson of Prophet Mohammad, and the third Imam in Shia Islam. On this day Shiites walk a long way from Najaf to Karbala (both cities in Iraq), where is the burial ground of Imam Hosein and is considered holy by Shiites, to mourn over martyrdom of Imam Hosein. In the past few years large number of people (15-18 million) have attended to this gathering, making it one of the largest religious gathering in the world.
